Instagram’s race to the bottom

I recently found a post on Instagram that said something along the lines of: “we need to go back to being snobs”.

And the thought behind it was that we stopped being demanding with the visual content we consume. We normalized mediocrity. And if we don’t do anything to reverse this trend, it’s only going to get worse.

Have you been on Instagram recently? Look at what it’s become — it’s not just the AI slop, it’s the whole thing. Content is getting worse and worse by the day. People’s attention spans are getting shorter and we’re creating derivative content all the time. Brands don’t want meaningful images to promote their business, they want the latest Instagram/Tik Tok trend. We’re becoming an AI; regurgitating content until everything looks the same. Soulless crap. And in huge quantities too, because we need to keep feeding the algorithm!

I’m tired of Instagram’s rules. I’m tired of “creating content”. I want to create images that speak to people, not images that copy whatever trend has been popular for the last 5 minutes. I urge everyone to do the same. Read books, seek inspiration elsewhere. Create something that’s true to yourself.

Let’s reverse this trend.

I’ll be actively looking for cool projects during the next few weeks. If you have something in mind or if you just want to discuss the topic, hit me up!
